Hello everyone!
The
Level Up contest was initiated by
AMVNews.ru (2009-2016), from which we have taken the concept and name with their kind permission.
Concept: This contest allows an experienced editor (Pro) to guide a beginner (Novice) in creating an AMV. The Pro supports the Novice throughout the creation process by offering advice and feedback to help them improve, without directly intervening in the editing or visual effects.
Roles and Responsibilities
Novice
- Define the project parameters.
- Perform editing, effects, and encoding of the AMV.
- Send regular previews to their Pro.
- Submit the final clip to AMV-France's FTP.
Pro
- Provide the registration link to the Novice (received by email upon validation).
- Guide the Novice in finding ideas, concepts, and sources.
- Offer technical advice (organization, software use, effect creation).
- Beta-test the previews.
A Discord server is available to facilitate exchanges between Pros and Novices, as well as for any questions regarding the rules. Join us
here.

Category Criteria (Pro or Novice)
An editor is automatically considered as a Pro if they have ranked in the top five (top 5) in any of the following contests within the last three years:
- Online Contest (top 5)
- Japan Expo (top 10)
- Soul's Team Iron Chef (STIC, top 5 per category)
- Runner Contest, TOS (top 5)
Special Cases
- If a contest has a limited number of participants, only the top 3 will be considered for Pro status.
- Handling community-ranked contests (Russian contests and similar): For contests like Akross, Big Contest, and other international competitions where rankings are primarily based on participant votes rather than an external jury, the organizers will consider the specific context of each contest. These rankings can sometimes reflect personal preferences or group trends, which may influence their representation in terms of technical and artistic skills.
For this reason, a high ranking in these contests will not always automatically determine Pro status. Organizers will evaluate the performance based on several factors:
- Overall contest quality (number of participants, diversity of styles and approaches).
- Perceived skill level in the participating clips.
- Ranking format (e.g., peer voting, cumulative points, absence of a formal jury).
If the ranking is deemed insufficiently representative of a participant's actual progress, the organizers may decide not to consider this performance for Pro status.
Exceptional Clips in Lesser-Known Contests
If a participant has created a particularly notable clip in a lesser-known contest (such as a smaller Iron Chef) without yet excelling in major contests, the organizers reserve the right to evaluate the case individually to determine whether this performance is sufficient to grant Pro status.
For Participants Without Competition History
The status of participants who have never entered contests or whose level is difficult to assess will be determined by the organizers, who reserve the right to place them in the category they deem most appropriate.
Procedure in Case of Doubt:
Participants unsure of their status are invited to contact the organizers to confirm their category. They may need to provide a link to their best AMV for evaluation.
Integrity and TransparencyParticipants must demonstrate transparency and honesty in their registration. Any attempt at misrepresentation or concealing skill levels will be sanctioned by the organizers or judges, depending on the severity of the offense.
Thank you for respecting these rules to ensure a fair and enjoyable competition for everyone!
